AI Image Checker: is this photo labeled as AI?
Reads the Content Credentials (C2PA) that ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Google, Microsoft, Samsung phones and pro cameras attach to images, checks the signature, and finds AI tags hidden in the metadata. The file never leaves your device.
Free · No sign-upHow to use AI Image Checker
- 1. Drop the original image or video file (or paste an image with Ctrl+V). Screenshots and files re-saved by social apps usually lose this data.
- 2. Read the verdict: Labeled as AI-generated, Edited with AI, Signed camera capture, or No AI label found — with the exact reasons.
- 3. Check the Content Credentials card: who signed it, when, which app made it, the edit history and ingredients, and whether the signature and image data still match.
- 4. Download the full report as JSON if you need to keep a record.
Frequently asked questions
Can this tool tell for sure if an image is AI?
No tool can. This checker reads labels that AI tools and cameras attach (Content Credentials and metadata) and verifies they weren't tampered with. When a label is missing, the image may still be AI — labels are often stripped by screenshots and social apps.
What are Content Credentials (C2PA)?
An open standard from the C2PA (Adobe, Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, the BBC and others) that stores a signed record of how a file was made and edited. It's the labeling method the EU AI Act transparency rules point to for AI-generated content from August 2026.
Which AI tools add these labels?
ChatGPT and DALL-E images, Adobe Firefly and Photoshop Generative Fill, Google's AI image tools and Pixel phones, Microsoft Designer and Bing Image Creator, and Samsung Galaxy AI edits add Content Credentials or IPTC labels. Stable Diffusion front-ends often save the prompt in the PNG.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The file is read and checked entirely in your browser with the built-in WebCrypto API. Nothing is sent anywhere.
What does 'Changed after signing' mean?
The pixels no longer match the hash stored in the Content Credentials, so the image was edited after it was signed without adding a new record — or the record was copied from another file.
Can it detect Google SynthID watermarks?
Not yet — SynthID can only be checked by Google's own tools (for example by asking Gemini). We explain this in the result so you know what was and wasn't checked.
