Frequently asked questions
How long should a title tag be?
Google cuts titles by width — about 600 pixels on desktop, which is usually 50–60 characters. The counter measures your title in Google’s font, so you can see when wide letters push it over.
How long should a meta description be?
Aim for 120–160 characters. Google usually cuts snippets around 155–160 characters (about 920 pixels) and sometimes writes its own from the page text, but a good description still improves clicks.
What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) tell Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord and many other apps what title, text and image to show when someone shares your link.
Do I need separate Twitter / X tags?
X reads the Open Graph tags when twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image are missing, so you only need twitter:card (and optionally twitter:site). Tick the option if you want the twitter: tags repeated anyway.
What size should my Open Graph image be?
Use 1200 × 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio), JPG or PNG, under 5 MB, at an absolute https:// URL. Smaller images may be shown as a small thumbnail or cropped.
Why doesn’t Facebook or LinkedIn show my new image?
Platforms cache link previews. After updating your tags, open the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector and scrape the URL again to refresh the cached copy.
