Frequently asked questions
Is the CSV to JSON converter free with no row limit?
Yes. It’s free, needs no sign-up and has no fixed row limit. Conversion runs in your browser, so the practical limit is how much text your browser can handle comfortably in the input box, which is typically many thousands of rows.
Is my CSV data uploaded when I convert it to JSON?
No. Parsing and conversion run entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your data isn’t sent to any server, which makes it suitable for customer lists, exports and other data you’d rather keep private.
How do I convert a CSV file with commas inside fields to JSON?
Make sure those fields are wrapped in double quotes, as Excel and Google Sheets do when exporting, for example “Austin, TX”. The converter respects quoted fields and escaped quotes, so commas and line breaks inside quotes stay part of the value instead of splitting columns.
Does the converter detect numbers and true/false values?
Yes, per column. If every value in a column is a plain number, the JSON uses numbers; if every value is true or false, it uses booleans. A column with any text, or numbers with leading zeros like ZIP code 02134, stays as strings for every row so your data stays consistent.
Can I convert CSV files that use semicolons or tabs?
Yes. The tool checks the first lines and automatically picks the delimiter: comma, semicolon, tab or pipe. That means semicolon-separated exports from European Excel settings and tab-separated data pasted from a spreadsheet both convert without extra settings.
How does JSON to CSV handle nested objects?
Paste a JSON array of objects (or a single object). The CSV header is built from every key found across all objects, and missing values are left blank. Nested objects or arrays are written into one cell as JSON text rather than flattened into separate columns.
