Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF editor really free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many PDFs you edit. PDFs up to 200 pages can be opened; split larger files first.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Pages are displayed with PDF.js and your edits are written with pdf-lib, both running in your browser. Your document never leaves your device, which makes it safe for contracts, tax forms and medical records.
Can I change the existing text in my PDF?
PDF text isn’t stored as editable paragraphs, so the tool doesn’t rewrite it in place. The standard fix is to cover the old words with Whiteout and type the new text on top in a matching font and size — it takes a few seconds and looks clean when printed.
Does whiteout remove the text underneath?
No. Whiteout hides content visually, but the original text is still inside the file and can be copied or searched. For names, account numbers or other sensitive data, use a true redaction tool that deletes the content.
Which fonts and languages can I type?
Helvetica, Times and Courier in regular or bold. Text with accents or characters outside Western European languages, such as Vietnamese, Polish or Cyrillic, is written with the open-source Noto Sans font automatically so every character appears correctly.
Can I add a signature or my own image?
Yes. Use the image tool to place a logo, stamp or scanned signature (PNG with transparency works best) and resize it. To draw or type a signature from scratch, use Sign PDF, which also adds dates and initials.
