Scan to PDF — Document Scanner

Turn your phone into a document scanner: snap pages with the camera or pick photos, and get a flat, clean, multi-page PDF. Free, no app, no sign-up — photos never leave your device.

Free · No sign-up

How to use Scan to PDF

  1. 1. Tap Scan with camera and photograph each page (allow camera access), or tap Choose photos / drop pictures you already took.
  2. 2. The scanner finds the page edges automatically. Drag any corner to fine-tune — a magnifier helps you place it exactly on the edge.
  3. 3. Pick a filter — Enhanced (removes shadows), Grayscale, B&W (crisp text) or Original — rotate if needed, and reorder or delete pages below.
  4. 4. Choose the Page size and Quality, then tap Create PDF. For searchable text, run the file through OCR PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is this document scanner free?

Yes. Scan to PDF is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no app to install. It works in the browser on iPhone, Android, tablets and computers.

Are my photos or documents uploaded?

No. The camera feed, edge detection, perspective correction, filters and PDF creation all run in your browser. Only the open-source pdf-lib library downloads when you create the PDF; your pages never leave your device.

How does the automatic edge detection work?

It looks for the outline of the page against the background, picks the four corners and then snaps each side to the exact edge in the full photo. It works best with a page on a contrasting surface. If it misses, drag the corners by hand or tap Whole photo.

What do the filters do?

Enhanced evens out shadows and uneven lighting, whitens the paper and boosts contrast while keeping color. Grayscale removes color and stretches contrast. B&W turns the page into pure black text on white paper — the smallest, crispest result for text. Original keeps the colors as photographed.

Is the text in the scanned PDF searchable?

Not by itself — each page is saved as a JPEG image. To add selectable, searchable text, open the PDF in our free OCR PDF tool, which adds an invisible text layer in your browser.

Why doesn’t the live camera work?

Your browser needs permission to use the camera, and some in-app browsers block it. If access is denied or no camera is found, use your phone’s camera app (the tool offers a button for it) or choose photos you already took — the result is the same.
