Frequently asked questions

Is the online audio converter free, and how many files can I convert?

It is free with no sign-up. You can add up to 30 files per batch. There’s no fixed size cap because the conversion runs on your computer, but very large files can exhaust browser memory, so long recordings are easier to convert one at a time.

Are my audio files uploaded when I convert them?

No. Conversion runs in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm. The first time, the page downloads the audio engine, about 32 MB, from grabcast.click, and your browser can reuse it later. Your files are read locally and never sent to our server.

How do I extract the audio from an MP4 video?

Drop the MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM file, choose MP3 or M4A under Convert to and click Convert. The converter keeps only the first audio track and drops the video. Use the trim fields if you only need part of the soundtrack.

What bitrate should I use when converting to MP3?

For speech and podcasts, 64k to 96k is usually plenty, especially in mono. For music, 192k is a good balance and 256k or 320k keeps more detail. VBR high adjusts the bitrate to the audio. The estimated output size updates as you change settings.

How do I normalize podcast loudness to −16 LUFS?

Open the Loudness menu and choose Podcast −16 LUFS, the level many podcast apps recommend. Streaming −14 LUFS suits music platforms and Broadcast −23 LUFS matches TV and radio. The converter applies ffmpeg’s loudnorm filter during conversion.

Which audio formats can I convert to, and which keep full quality?

You can export MP3, M4A (AAC), OGG (Vorbis), WAV or FLAC. WAV and FLAC are lossless, so they keep full quality at a larger size. Title, artist, album, year and cover art tags are added to MP3 and M4A files.
