Remove Image Metadata

Strip EXIF, GPS location and camera data from a photo before you share it. 100% in your browser — private, free, no upload.

Free · No sign-up

How to remove metadata from a photo

  1. 1. Drop one or more photos onto the upload area, or click to choose them — JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned losslessly; other formats are re-encoded.
  2. 2. Each photo gets a report card showing what was found, such as 📍 GPS location, camera make and model, and date taken, and which metadata blocks were removed.
  3. 3. Check the size change and the “Lossless: pixels untouched” note to confirm the image quality stayed exactly the same.
  4. 4. Click Download on each card to save the “-clean” copy, or use ⬇ Download all as ZIP when you cleaned several photos.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image metadata remover free, and can I clean many photos at once?

Yes, it’s free with no account. You can drop several photos at once; each gets its own report and download button, and when two or more are cleaned a Download all as ZIP button appears. The practical limit is your device’s memory, since all the work happens in your browser.

Are my photos uploaded when I remove EXIF data?

No. The photos are read and rewritten entirely in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server. Only the ZIP helper library is downloaded from a public CDN if you choose Download all as ZIP. That makes the tool safe for private family or location-sensitive photos.

How do I remove GPS location from a photo before posting it online?

Drop the photo onto the tool. If it contains coordinates, the report shows a red 📍 GPS location line with the latitude and longitude and marks it as removed. Download the “-clean” copy and share that file instead of the original.

Does removing metadata reduce photo quality?

Not for JPG, PNG or WebP. The tool strips the metadata blocks (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments, PNG text chunks) without re-encoding the pixels, so quality is identical. Other formats, such as HEIC where the browser can decode it, are re-encoded as a high-quality JPG to remove the metadata.

Will my iPhone photo turn sideways after removing EXIF data?

No. When a JPG’s EXIF data includes a rotation flag, the tool keeps a tiny orientation-only tag so the photo still displays upright. Everything else, including GPS, camera model and date, is removed. The ICC color profile is also kept, so colors look the same.

Which image metadata does this tool remove?

It removes EXIF (GPS coordinates, camera make and model, lens, date taken, software), XMP and IPTC/Photoshop blocks, embedded comments, and PNG text and timestamp chunks. The report lists exactly what was removed for each file, or tells you the photo was already clean.
