Free · No sign-upHow to use the Pomodoro Timer
- 1. Pick a session: Focus 25 for a 25-minute work block, Break 5 for a short rest, or Long 15 for a longer break — or set your own lengths under Timer settings.
- 2. Press Start (or the Space key) to begin the countdown. The remaining time also appears in your browser tab title, so you can check it from another tab.
- 3. Press Pause if you get interrupted, then Resume to continue; use Reset to put the current session back to its full length.
- 4. When the timer hits zero you’ll hear a short beep (and get a desktop notification if you turned it on), and the next session is lined up: a short break, or a long break after every few focus sessions.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Pomodoro timer free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it’s completely free with no sign-up and no account needed. Just open the page, choose Focus, Break or Long break, and press Start (or the Space key). There’s no limit on how many sessions you run.
Does the online Pomodoro timer collect any data?
No. The countdown runs entirely in your browser, and the alarm sound is generated on your device. Your custom lengths and on/off choices are saved only in this browser’s local storage so they’re there next time; nothing about your sessions is sent to our server or saved to an account.
How does the Pomodoro Technique work?
You work with full focus for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. After about four focus sessions, take a longer 15 to 30 minute break. The short, timed blocks make big tasks feel manageable and help you notice when your attention starts to drift.
Can I change the Pomodoro timer length to 50 minutes?
Yes. Open Timer settings and set Focus to 50 minutes (anything from 1 to 180 works), and pick your own short break, long break and how many focus sessions come before a long break. The timer remembers these settings in your browser, and Restore defaults brings back 25/5/15.
Will the Pomodoro timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The countdown is calculated from the clock rather than by counting ticks, so it stays accurate in a background tab, and the time left shows in the tab title. Turn on Sound or Desktop notification in Timer settings to be alerted when a session ends. Closing or reloading the page stops the current countdown, though your settings are kept.
Does the Pomodoro timer work on phones and tablets?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, iPad, Mac, Windows and Chromebook. On phones, keep the screen on and the browser open, because mobile systems may pause web pages when the screen locks or you switch apps.
