How to use Add Text to Image

  1. 1. Drop a photo into the box (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or iPhone HEIC). A first text layer appears in the middle.
  2. 2. Type your words in the Text box, then drag the text on the photo. Pull the corner ◢ handle to resize it and the top ⟳ handle to rotate it, or start from a Caption bar, Headline, Watermark or Quote preset.
  3. 3. Style it: font, color, bold or italic, alignment, letter spacing, line height, opacity, Outline & shadow and an optional Background box. Add more layers and reorder, duplicate or delete them in the Layers list; Undo steps back.
  4. 4. Choose the format (same as the original, JPG, PNG or WebP) and quality, then click Download image. The file has the same pixel size as your photo.

Frequently asked questions

Is this add text to image tool free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no watermark, and you can add as many text layers and download as many images as you like.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo and the text are drawn on a canvas in your browser and saved straight to your device. Only font files download from GrabCast or the jsDelivr CDN when you pick a font, and iPhone HEIC photos load a small converter library first.

Does adding text reduce the quality or size of my photo?

The download has exactly the same width and height as your original. PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP are re-saved at the quality you choose (92% by default), so pick 95–100% or PNG if you want the least compression. Photo metadata such as EXIF location is not copied into the new file.

Which fonts can I use?

16 open-source fonts: Inter, Montserrat, Oswald, Anton, Archivo Black, Bebas Neue, Playfair Display, Merriweather, Lora, Lobster, Pacifico, Permanent Marker, Caveat, Great Vibes, Sacramento and Allura. They are licensed under the SIL Open Font License, so the finished images can be used commercially. Fonts without a true bold or italic style are slanted or thickened by the browser.

Can I add several texts and move them around?

Yes. Every text is its own layer: drag it anywhere, resize it with the corner handle, rotate it with the top handle or type an exact angle, and nudge it with the arrow keys (hold Shift for bigger steps). The Layers list brings a text forward or backward, duplicates it or deletes it, and Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) cover every change.

How do I make a caption bar or a watermark?

Click the Caption bar preset for white text on a full-width semi-transparent black bar, or Watermark for small, 60% opacity text in the bottom-right corner. You can then change the words, color, box opacity, padding and corner radius. To watermark many photos at once, use the Add Watermark to Image tool.
