▶ Watch: How to transcribe audio to text (0:38)

Video transcript
  1. Pick a model. Base is a good balance of speed and accuracy. Small is more accurate but slower.
  2. Set the language. Choose the spoken language, or leave it on Auto-detect.
  3. Add your recording. Drop an audio or video file. The AI model runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
  4. Check the transcript. Read it through and fix any names right in the text box.
  5. Download subtitles. Save an SRT for YouTube captions, or plain text, VTT or Word.

How it works

  1. 1. Drop in an audio or video file. Pick a model (Tiny is fastest; Base is more accurate) and the spoken language, or leave it on auto-detect.
  2. 2. The AI model downloads once (then it's cached) and transcribes the audio on your own device — using WebGPU when available for speed.
  3. 3. Copy the transcript, download it as TXT or SRT subtitles, or hit ✨ Summarize / 🌐 Translate.

Why in-browser transcription?

Most transcription tools upload your recordings to their servers and charge per minute. GrabCast runs the AI (OpenAI's Whisper model) directly in your browser, so your audio never leaves your computer. That makes it genuinely private, free and unlimited — perfect for interviews, meetings, lectures, podcasts, voice notes and subtitles. A modern browser (Chrome or Edge recommended) with WebGPU gives the fastest results; older devices should choose the Tiny model.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No — the AI model runs entirely in your browser, so your audio and video never leave your device.

Is it really free and unlimited?

Yes. Because it runs on your device there is no server cost, so it's free, unlimited and needs no account.

What files can I use?

MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and many video formats. Export includes SRT subtitles with timestamps.

The first run is slow — why?

The AI model (~80 MB for Tiny) downloads once on first use, then it's cached and every run afterwards is fast.
