Free · No sign-up

How to use the Online Notepad

  1. 1. Start typing in the large notepad box. There’s no Save button to press — every change is saved automatically in this browser’s local storage as you type.
  2. 2. Keep an eye on the status line under the box for live word and character counts, along with a reminder that the note is saved in this browser.
  3. 3. Click Copy to put the whole note on your clipboard, or Download .txt to save it as notes.txt on your computer or phone.
  4. 4. When you’re done, click Clear and confirm to erase the note. Clearing can’t be undone, so download anything you want to keep first.

Frequently asked questions

Is the online notepad free, and is there a limit on note length?

Yes, it’s free with no account. The tool itself sets no length limit, but notes live in your browser’s local storage, which has a per-site size cap set by the browser. Plain-text notes, even long ones, rarely come close to it.

Are notes in this online notepad private?

Yes. Your text is stored only in your browser’s local storage on this device and is never sent to GrabCast’s servers. The flip side: anyone using the same browser profile can open the page and read it, and clearing browsing data or closing a private window erases it.

Will my notepad notes still be there after I close the browser?

Yes, as long as you come back on the same device and browser without clearing site data; the note reloads automatically when you open the page. It doesn’t sync to your phone or another computer, so use Download .txt or Copy to move it elsewhere.

How do I save my online notes as a text file?

Click Download .txt and the whole note is saved as notes.txt in your Downloads folder. It’s a plain text file that opens in Notepad, TextEdit, Google Docs, Word or any code editor, on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.

Can I use the online notepad as a word counter?

Yes. The status line below the box updates as you type with the number of words and characters, which is handy for essays, social posts and forms with limits. Words are counted as runs of non-space characters, so hyphenated terms count as one word.

Does the online notepad support bold text or other formatting?

No, it’s a plain-text notepad by design, which keeps it fast and distraction-free and means copied text pastes cleanly anywhere. Line breaks and spacing are kept. If you need headings or bold, write in Markdown syntax and preview it in a Markdown editor.
