🔒 Private · Free · No uploadHow to use 📸 Portrait Blur (Bokeh)
- 1. Drop a photo of a person, pet or object into the upload box. Large photos are resized to 1,536 pixels on the longest side for processing.
- 2. Wait while the AI model finds your subject. The first run downloads the model once; later photos are faster because it stays cached in your browser.
- 3. Drag the Blur strength slider (0–40) to soften the background, and use Background dim (0–60) to darken it so your subject stands out.
- 4. Click Download JPG or Download PNG to save the result, or New image to start over with another photo.
Frequently asked questions
Is the portrait blur tool free, and is there a watermark?
Yes, it’s free with no sign-up and no watermark. There’s no daily limit because processing happens on your own device. Very large photos are resized to 1,536 pixels on the longest side so the AI model can run smoothly in the browser.
Are my photos uploaded to blur the background?
No. The subject-detection AI model (MODNet) is downloaded to your browser from a public CDN and runs on your device using WebGPU or WebAssembly. Your photo never goes to our server. Your last result is kept only in this browser’s local storage for a few days so you can restore it.
How do I blur the background of a photo like iPhone portrait mode?
Upload the photo, let the AI separate the subject, then raise Blur strength until the background looks soft, usually between 10 and 20. Add a little Background dim to make the subject pop. Download it as JPG for sharing or PNG for the highest quality.
Why are the edges around hair a bit soft or blurry?
The AI creates a soft mask around the subject, and fine details like flyaway hair, fur or glasses can blend slightly into the background. Photos with good lighting and clear contrast between subject and background give the cleanest edges. A lower blur strength also makes small mistakes less visible.
Why is the background blur tool slow the first time?
The first run downloads the AI model, which is then cached in your browser, so later photos start much faster. Speed also depends on your device: Chrome or Edge with WebGPU is quickest, while older phones use slower WebAssembly and may struggle with very large images.
Which photo formats does the portrait blur tool support?
It accepts common image formats your browser can open, such as JPG, PNG and WebP. You can download the result as JPG (smaller, good for social media) or PNG (lossless). Output size matches the processed photo, up to 1,536 pixels on the longest side.
