Frequently asked questions

Is this online screen recorder free, and is there a recording time limit?

It’s free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The tool sets no time limit; the practical limit is your device’s memory, because the video is held in the browser until you download it. It records at roughly 4 to 12 Mbps depending on quality, so long sessions create large files.

Are my screen recordings uploaded anywhere?

No. Capture, webcam compositing and encoding all happen in your browser with its built-in MediaRecorder, and the finished file is saved straight to your device. Nothing is sent to GrabCast. Your browser asks permission before sharing your screen, microphone or camera, and you can stop sharing at any time.

How do I record my screen with audio on a computer?

Keep System / tab audio ticked, and tick Microphone if you want your voice too; both are mixed into one audio track. When the share dialog opens, choose the tab or screen and make sure its share-audio option is on. Some browsers and operating systems only share audio from a browser tab, not the whole screen.

Can I record my webcam and screen at the same time?

Yes, in Chrome or Edge. Tick Webcam bubble and choose a corner (bottom right, bottom left, top right or top left), a Small, Medium or Large size, and a Circle or Rounded shape. The mirrored camera is drawn onto the screen video and keeps recording even when you switch to another tab.

Can I use this screen recorder on an iPhone or Android phone?

No. Mobile browsers don’t allow web pages to capture the screen, so the recorder needs an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a desktop or laptop computer. On a phone, use the screen recording feature built into iOS or Android instead.

Does the screen recorder save MP4 or WebM files?

The Format menu lists only what your browser can record: MP4 when it can encode it, WebM when it supports that. MP4 plays almost everywhere, including Windows, Mac, iPhone and most video editors. Pick 720p for smaller files or 1080p at 60 fps for smooth motion in demos and games.
