Frequently asked questions
Is this video compressor free, and is there a file size limit?
It’s free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. There’s no fixed upload limit because nothing is uploaded, but the video is processed in your browser’s memory, so very large or long files can fail on devices with limited RAM. If that happens, try a shorter clip or a lower resolution.
Is my video uploaded to a server when I compress it?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The first time, your browser downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 32 MB), which is then cached. Your video stays on your device the whole time.
How do I compress a video to under 10 MB for Discord?
Load the video and click Discord 10 MB under Fit under a size. The tool calculates the bitrate from the video’s length and runs a two-pass H.264 encode so the file lands just under the limit, lowering the resolution automatically if needed. Very long videos may look soft at small targets.
How can I make a video file smaller without losing much quality?
Leave the size target off and choose the Balanced or Best quality preset with Resolution set to Keep. These use constant-quality H.264 encoding, which cuts file size while keeping the picture sharp. Dropping to 1080p or 720p, or removing audio, saves even more space.
What format does the video compressor output?
Every result is an MP4 file with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and nearly every website and messaging app. It’s also optimized for fast start, so it can begin playing online before fully downloading. Inputs can be any video your browser can open, such as MP4, MOV or WebM.
Why is compressing a video in the browser slow?
All encoding happens on your own computer’s CPU, not on a server, so a long 1080p or 4K video can take several minutes. Size-target mode runs two passes and takes longer. Choosing a lower resolution speeds things up, and keeping the tab open and in front helps it finish.
